Before the weather gets unbearably hot (as we know it will in the TX summer) get outside with your toddler or preschooler and go on a fun family picnic! While the idea of having small children in wide open spaces may sound too exhausting, you can eliminate some of the stress with good planning. Anytime you leave the house with your kiddos, a great rule of thumb is to keep the outing as simple as possible. Cramming too many activities into one afternoon can lead to grumpy children and an exhausted mom.

    1. Location, Location, Location – When deciding where to picnic start by doing it at a familiar place. You could even start in your own backyard or at a friend’s house. Being familiar with your surroundings will give you peace of mind to be able to enjoy yourself. Once your kids are older or whenever you are more comfortable, venture out to a local park or zoo for your picnic festivities.

    2. Bring a Friend – Children almost always do better when they have friends to play with. Even introverted children appreciate the company of another child to play with outside. Being outside is the perfect place to spark imagination so having a friend explore with your child makes it even more fun! Plus, having another adult to watch the kiddos means you will have a chance to talk to a grown-up and have another set of eyes looking out for your child as you look after theirs.

An Easter Egg Hunt can be a fun event for the whole family, but did you know it can also be an educational opportunity for your child? Here are six creative ways your child can learn through an egg hunt:

    1.Toddlers Can Learn Colors

Before letting your toddler loose to find as many plastic eggs as possible, tell your toddler only to collect a specific color or colors of eggs. This will help your toddler distinguish between different colors and make the game more challenging!

    2.Toddlers Can Learn Shapes

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, fill plastic eggs with different shaped objects. After the eggs are all found, reward your child for naming each of the shapes found in his or her eggs.

    3.Preschoolers Can Learn Numbers

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, use a permanent marker to number the plastic eggs before hiding them. Challenge your children to find the eggs in order from 1 to 20, or 1 to 100 if you’re that ambitious!

Is your child’s back talking becoming a problem? Are you tired of hearing “No! You do it!” from your toddler or preschooler? There may be something you can do to help curb those annoying, whiny, temper tantrums.

Instead of responding by saying “You’ll do it because I said so” or “Don’t ever talk to me like that!” there are other ways to help your child learn to disagree with you respectfully. The best way to stop back talk is to provide your child with some independence – but within your own limits. Kids of all ages need a sense of personal power to make their own choices and express their differences in opinions with parents. When parents make all the decisions for them, children naturally want to lash out, and so they do — with words and sometimes, physical aggression.

So how can parents teach their children to disagree respectfully? Read the full article here: How to Stop Back Talking Without "Because I Said So"

Parents may sometimes misunderstand that a child’s brain development begins, or can only be enhanced, once the child is born. As early as ten weeks into your pregnancy, your child’s brain is already formed and functioning. Millions of tiny neurons are active in the brain. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Shadow Creek Ranch in Pearland, Texas values the need for optimal brain development in your child. We have put together this informative blog to explain brain development at the prenatal level.

    Ten – fifteen weeks

During this stage of pregnancy, a child’s heart is already beating and he or she is growing at a remarkable rate. Fetal movements such as kicking help to create synapses, which are the gaps between neurons. The neurons inside your unborn child’s brain are linking together and creating pathways, which cover every aspect of a child’s learning.

    Sixteen – twenty-seven weeks

During this stage of pregnancy, you will begin to notice your child’s development. Your unborn baby begins to develop in a sensory way. The infant will sense when you are moving about and will often react. Taste buds will be formed and the child will be able to hear sounds, like your heartbeat. As an expectant parent, it is essential to stay calm as you become familiar with the aspects of this stage. Becoming unsettled will have an effect on your unborn baby.

Do not settle for typical day care. The child care specialists at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Shadow Creek Ranch, Texas understand the brain development of a child, from the prenatal stages all the way through to adulthood. Our exclusive Brain Waves™ Curriculum provides age-appropriate activities that offer an exceptional opportunity for brain development. Contact us and we will be more than happy to assist you with questions, or to enroll your child in our AdvancED™ accredited preschool program.

Your child’s brain development is vitally important. Ensure that you provide him or her with the right learning environment that is educational, loving and supportive. At the Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Shadow Creek Ranch we provide the perfect environment in which your child will learn and flourish. Utilizing educational toys, challenging games and a healthy exposure to technology, we offer your child the best learning opportunities available.

A healthy exposure to technology is crucial. However, too much TV time for an infant child may interfere with brain development. Studies have shown that due to the passive nature of this activity, your child will not receive the right amount of mental stimulation.

Limiting your child to a couple of hand picked educational programs a day is best.

Here are a few benefits of attending our Learning Academy

    • We support holistic brain development: All of our activities are designed to support different parts of your child’s brain as they become active. This includes language, socio-emotional-physical and cognitive development.
    • We meet your child’s needs: Our staff and activities meet your child’s developmental needs as he or she grows and changes. We teach preverbal sign language to stimulate language development in your infant. Our learning stations provide your preschooler with information about science and architecture.
    • We are state and nationally accredited: Having completed thorough accreditation processes, we are fully committed to giving your child the best possible education at each life stage.

Here at the Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Shadow Creek Ranch we recognize the importance of your child’s development by offering our exclusive Brain Waves™ curriculum. Our goal is to equip your child for the challenges that lie ahead. We provide a loving, supportive environment that will allow your child to grow and excel.

Literature will be a vital part of your preschool child’s education long into the future. The development of the skills surrounding reading and writing will provide more benefit to your child than almost any other. With many of today’s youth not being interested in reading of any sort, you need to start developing the love of reading in your child at a very young age. There are some great ways to peak interest through technology, as there are hundreds of applications for a child to use to bring literature to life.

Giving your child a head start

Because literature is such a crucial aspect of our world, it is essential that your child is informed and taught the necessary skills that accompany reading and writing. Your child will undoubtedly pick up a tablet or smartphone and instantly become engrossed in what the device has to offer. It is important that any device in the hands of a preschool child has only age-appropriate material on it.

Furthermore, seek out applications that are interactive, and that you can walk through with your child in order to learn how to use them. This creates a fun learning environment for your child, which strengthens brain development, much like our preschool Fast Track Curriculum™. Here is a website we recommend that has preschool apps and games related to learning how to read: http://kidsactivitiesblog.com/28145/preschool-games.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Shadow Creek Ranch, Texas, we provide your preschool child with the latest technologically advanced equipment to help increase his or her skills and to keep them engaged with reading to strengthen neural connections. Your child will have fun, and learn to love reading and literature.

Do not hesitate to contact us to enroll your child in our AdvancED Accredited preschool program instead of regular day care.

Research has found that the more your child is exposed to cats, dogs or other pets, the more your child’s immune system improves through building antibodies to the allergens. In other words a child that grows up in a pet free home is more likely to get allergies. A study recently done in the U.K. and the U.S. found that sick children take a lot of antibiotics. A child growing up with pets was sick less and took less antibiotics than the child who grew up without pets.

Here are three ways pets can improve your families health

Owning a pet is not only fun for the family, it can help to improve the health of the family, especially children. Here are three ways:

    • A healthier heart

Dog owners tend to walk more, which helps reduce the risk of heart disease.

    • Asthma

Studies have shown that a child who lives with a pet is less likely to develop asthma or other allergies.

    • Better mood

People who live with pets are tend to be happier and with less stress. This may be due to the unconditional love and loyalty of a pet.

With our Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy leading curriculum, healthy meal program, mental stimulation, and physical activity, your child will have everything he or she needs to meet developmental milestones.
